Solar is here to stay and that is great of course as the Sun can provide the entire world with enough electricity, we just need to harness that power with Solar panels. People are more educated about solar energy now but some common solar misconceptions still prevail, let’s take some time to go through them monthly.
The first common misconception about Solar Energy:  ” My Solar system will still be working if the grid goes down”
No you will not be able to utilize your solar system if the grid goes down.  The reason is the solar system is grid-tied, meaning that your solar system is feeding the grid system the electricity from your solar installation to the grid system you’re with, owned by the utility company you are with.  If the grid goes down then the solar system will not kick in to supply you the electricity directly and circumvent the grid system. That is not possible for safety reasons and the fact that the entire system is engineered for a grid-tied system using the “grid” to basically store the power generated by your solar installation and to seamlessly have access to power as long as the grid is up.
The first common misconception about Solar Energy:  ” My Solar system will still be working if the grid goes down”
If your solar system was not working( maybe your inverter is down” you would still have power if the grid is still up. The only way to have some power when the grid goes down is to invest in battery storage or generators and a lot of people are doing that with or without a solar installation.  The smartest way to ensure that your house is utilizing the sun for money-saving and environmental reasons and to ensure that if the grid goes down is to have a solar installation that meets all of your energy needs and to have either battery storage and or a generator.  But the simple answer to ” Will my solar system deliver electricity to my home if the grid goes down? IS NO!
PacificSky Solar is happy to give you a complete evaluation of all your needs in regards to Solar Energy, Solar Panels, Battery Storage, and generators, and it is our pleasure to do so.
